PSG Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG has now won the season-opening cup on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise lead. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the final moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
